About Me — Lorna McKenzie

My Credibilility

I am a Registered Civil Marriage Celebrant who studied with The Australian Academy of Celebrancy and keep my experience and skills up-to-date with annual professional development and industry research.

I came to this work with a profound desire to help create meaningful ritual in my community. I grew up in traditional organised religion that was dull, empty, denied women and people of difference. This sent me hunting for a better way to create ceremony and rites of passage that truly meant something.

I believe strongly that birthing, coming of age, death, menstruation, menopause, marriage and commitment ceremonies are rites of passage that need to be thoughtfully and appropriately marked for us to fully transition into the next phase of our lives.

It is exciting to be around people who want to reconnect to community, taking time to mark and celebrate each new season of our lives.

I'm lesbian and a member of the GLBTQ network and love to help people of all genders and diversity create ceremonies to celebrate their relationships.

I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA) — Dismal Fogs Shire —, a member of Green Peace, of Amnesty International, of Get Up, of Avaaz, the Australian Costumers Guild, of Kiva Micro Loans, of Blue Mountains Slow Food and of diverse local and global permaculture and sustainability groups.

Some More of My Story...
